Ministers drop security shutters plan
Ministers have abandoned proposals to ease planning restrictions on security shutters for shops, fearing the move would give high streets "the appearance of being under siege". A Department for Communities and Local Government consultation, asking if shops should be able to install security shutters without approval from local authorities, was prompted by last summer's English riots. However the consultation concluded that the move would be a "disproportionate over-reaction".
