Manning detention a 'flagrant violation' of military code
The US army has been accused of "flagrant violation" of military codes, surrounding the detention of Bradley Manning. The code includes the right not to be punished prior to trial, but Mr Manning's lawyer David Coombs has claimed his client was held in a 6x8 ft cell for up to 24 hours a day. Mr Coombs said: "He was not permitted to lie down on his rack during the duty day. Nor was Mr Manning permitted to lean his back against the cell wall; he had to sit upright on his rack without any back support".
