Disabled rights reformer Lord Morris dies
Lord Morris of Manchester has died aged 84. An MP for Manchester Wythenshawe between 1964 and 1997, Lord Morris became the country's first minister for the disabled in 1974.
An outspoken activist on disability rights, he introduced the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act in 1970, which became the first legislation in the world to ensure equal rights for disabled people in society.
Labour Lords leader Baroness Royall has paid tribute to Lord Morris, and the way in which he "transformed the lives of millions and millions of people throughout the world".
Labour leader Ed Miliband said he was "deeply saddened" to hear of Lord Morris' death, describing him as "a pioneering campaigner for vulnerable people across our society" and "a Labour man through and through".
