Top universities 'should expand'
Elite universities are "heavily oversubscribed" and should expand to prevent bright teenagers from being left out, David Willetts has said. In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, the Higher Education Minister said sought-after universities, such as Oxford and Cambridge, should do more to prevent the annual scramble for limited places. The minister called on the most popular institutions to "find ways in which they can finance growth in the number of undergraduates", in order to give more young people "the opportunity to go to a prestigious university".
