Campbell 'should be Scottish Secretary'

Campbell 'should be Scottish Secretary'
A senior Conservative has urged David Cameron to bring former Liberal Democrat leader Menzies Campbell in to the Cabinet.

Mark Pritchard, previously a leading figure on the backbench 1922 Committee, told PoliticsHome that Sir Menzies should be the next Scottish Secretary, ahead of the 2014 referendum on Scottish independence.

It comes as the current Scottish Secretary, Lib Dem Michael Moore, urges Alex Salmond to come to the table for talks on the independence referendum.

Mr Pritchard said: "With a referendum coming, Ming Campbell should be the next Scottish Secretary. He is respected and trusted throughout Scotland."

Earlier this year, the Prime Minister made the case for the Union, saying it would be "deeply, deeply sad" if Scotland became an independent country.
