£3.5m boost to homeless programme
The Government has announced a further £3.5m will go to housing charities helping with the problem of homelessness as it expands the ‘No Second Night Out’ programme.
The scheme is being spread to eight more areas, where councils and voluntary organisations will be asked to try to support those at risk of becoming homeless, and provide shelters.
Communities minister Andrew Stunell said the increased funding would provide a "safety net" for people.
He told Sky News: "We’ve announced money today to make sure that when people do fall through the safety net, they have an option as soon as possible – ‘No Second Night Out’ is the slogan – to get back into fixed accommodation so there’s no need for anybody to be sleeping out on the streets.
