UN rapporteur calls for US drone investigation
The US must set up an investigation into drone strikes or be prepared to face a UN inquiry, a leading QC has said.
Ben Emmerson QC, a UN special rapporteur on human rights, said the issue of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) would "remain at the top of the UN political agenda until some consensus and transparency has been achieved".
If America refuses to bring in independent assessors, "the UN should put the mechanisms in place through the Human Rights Council, the General Assembly and the Office of the High Commissioner,” he said.
