Canada has closed its embassy in Tehran and ordered Iranian diplomats to leave Ottawa, partly in response to the country’s continued support of the Syrian regime.
Canada’s foreign affairs minister John Baird also cited Iran’s disputed nuclear programme and continued human rights violations as reasons behind their termination of ties with Tehran.
He said his government perceived Iran to be "the most significant threat to global peace and security in the world today".
