Blair to receive $1m for three hour mediation
Tony Blair is set to receive nearly $1m (£620,000) for three hours' work, after being drafted in to broker Glencore's bid to merge with mining giant Xstrata.
The former prime minister was urged to step in after talks between Ivan Glasenberg, the tycoon who runs Glencore, and Qatar’s prime minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al Thani reached an impasse.
Sources close to the deal told the Sunday Times Mr Blair was called late on Friday to intervene, and mediated a three-hour discussion at Claridge’s until after midnight.
