The Lib Dems will limit their future co-operation with the Conservatives over spending plans to a single year, David Laws has said in an interview with the Times.
However the former Treasury minister warned there must be no question of "bailing out of the coalition plane" before the end of the parliament, saying the move would backfire on the party's election prospects.
"The public would think it was a cynical attempt to distance ourselves from some of the tougher decisions we have had to take," the Schools Minister told the paper.
