Greek police clash with protesters
Greek riot police have fired tear gas at protesters near the country's parliament, as unions stage their first general strike since the new pro-austerity government came to power.
Large anti-austerity demonstrations are being held in support of the 24-hour strike, called by unions that represent half the workforce.
Clashes have erupted in Syntagma Square in Athens, as protesters threw petrol bombs and missiles at security services.
Yesterday rubber bullets were fired at protesters at similar rallies in Spain, which is also struggling with its austerity programme.
