MPs criticise welfare fraud detection
The Department for Work and Pensions failed to rigorously root out fraud among welfare-to-work providers, the Public Accounts Committee has found. Committee chair Margaret Hodge said the DWP had "not been proactive in setting in place systems which root out fraud" and missed "vital evidence", particularly at the firm A4e. But the report accepted checks had improved under the Coalition.
