Sir Norman Bettison retires
Sir Norman Bettison, chief constable of West Yorkshire police will retire next year.

In September, Sir Norman was referred to the IPCC for being "involved in the production and supply of misleading information for the various inquiries that have been undertaken into the Hillsborough disaster".

Sir Norman was an off-duty police officer for South Yorkshire police at the game in 1989 and was involved in a subsquent internal inquiry.

Tonight, Sir Norman said; "Recent weeks have caused me to reflect on what is best for the future of policing in West Yorkshire". He will step down in March 2013.
