Cameron would vote for abortion limit reduction

Cameron would vote for abortion limit reduction
David Cameron would vote for a “modest” reduction in the time limit for abortions, he said today.

After Jeremy Hunt’s backing for the limit to be halved to 12 weeks provoked controversy, the Prime Minister reiterated that the Government would not be introducing any legislation to reduce the limit.

However he said he would vote in favour of a motion to reduce the limit, if it was introduced by backbench MPs: “A modest reduction from the 24 weeks would be right, and I would vote for that.”

Along with health experts and women's rights campaigners, Conservatives were also angered at the timing of Mr Hunt's remarks and for re-opening such a sensitive debate.
