Euro MPs to vote on banking sanctions
A committee of MEPs will vote today on the introduction of stronger EU-wide penalties for financial market abuse. The EU Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee will decide on the introduction of stronger criminal sanctions for bankers complicit in affairs such as the recent Libor-rigging scandal. Meanwhile, a YouGov/Avaaz poll has shown that 89% of people in the UK want criminal sanctions for bankers found guilty of market abuse.
