Tory manifesto to contain EU pledge
The Conservative manifesto will include plans to offer the British people the chance to give “fresh consent” for the UK’s relationship with the European Union, David Cameron said today.
The Prime Minister, who has spoken before on the need to give the British public their say but has not confirmed it would be a manifesto pledge, reiterated his opposition to a straight in-out referendum.
“I don't want an in-out referendum because I’m not happy with us leaving the EU but I'm not happy with the status quo either, I think what the vast majority of this country wants is a new settlement from Europe and that settlement being put to fresh consent. That's what's going in our manifesto.”
