Many MPs claim first-class travel
Over 180 MPs have claimed first class train fares, despite parliamentary rules requiring them to buy standard fares. The MPs, including Ed Balls, Yvette Cooper, Francis Maude and Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin, have exploited a loophole allowing first class claims under special circumstances.
Travel arrangements came under scrutiny recently when George Osborne was found in a first-class carriage with a standard ticket, for which he then bought an upgrade.
