The Attorney General has said that Parliament is free to ignore the European Court's ruling against a blanket ban on prisoner voting.
However, in a speech at BPP law school, Dominic Grieve did say that there was an "international legal obligation" to observe the rulings of the European Court and that by ignoring them, the Government was leaving itself open to "criticism" and "sanctions" from the Council of Europe.
