Christopher Tappin will change his plea to guilty on charges of selling weapons parts to Iran.
The British businessman reached a deal with US prosecutors before his appearance in a US court next week.
Mr Tappin was extradited to the United States after being charged of selling batteries for surface-to-air missiles to Iran. If found guilty he could have faced 35 years in jail.
UKIP leader Nigel Farage, long term friend of the Tappin family said:
"It is no surprise that Mr Tappin has done this, as the odds are so heavily stacked against a defendant in the American judicial system."
