Employers should 'take lead' in apprenticeships
Radical reform of the Government's apprenticeship system is needed to offer workers and employees skills of "tangible value", a new report says.
The Government-commissioned Richard Review claims the definition of apprenticeship has been "stretched too far" and should be rethought.
It calls for the introduction of a new work-based set of qualifications to support entry into employment.
Matt Hancock parliamentary under-secretary for further education, skills and life-long learning welcomes the report, saying "it means tough questions about improving rigour and making apprenticeships higher quality but those are challenges I absolutely square up to".
