Clegg in charity cash row
Nick Clegg has denied any impropriety after his role in the award of £12m of public money to a charity supported by his wife came under scrutiny.
An email from one of Mr Clegg’s aides, leaked to the Mail on Sunday, asked the Department for Education to fast-track the money to Booktrust and made mention of a function for the charity hosted by Mr Clegg’s wife weeks earlier.
A spokesman for Mr Clegg described any claims of wrongdoing as “smears and innuendo”, but Tory MP Peter Bone has called for an investigation. Labour’s John Mann has asked for the publication of all the emails.
