Govt care overhaul
The Government has announced plans to reduce the amount of people with learning disabilities kept in hospitals.

Speaking to MPs today, Care Minister Norman Lamb said there would a be a "dramatic reduction" in those receving in-patient care, adding that it would be more appropriate for many patients to be looked after at home.

Mr Lamb told of the plans when announcing the results of a review into the Winterbourne Care Home scandal, where abuse and neglect was uncovered by the BBC.

Speaking to BBC News this evening, the Care Minister said there had to be a "relentless focus" on standards in care homes.

Shadow Care Minister Liz Kendall welcomed the Government's announcement but said the proposals needed to be "stronger, clearer, firmer".
