UKIP candidate suspended

UKIP candidate suspended
UKIP has suspended a local council candidate who called for a review into whether foetuses with Down’s syndrome or spina bifida should face compulsory abortion.

Geoffrey Clark, who was standing for a role on Kent Country Council, said on his website there should be a national debate on the issue since the NHS “risks becoming unaffordable in the future”.

UKIP this evening said it did not endorse the “abhorrent views” and Mr Clark would not be standing as a candidate for them again. A party spokesman added that the party had not been aware of these views prior to allowing Mr Clark to stand as a UKIP candidate.
