Rise in 'lost offenders'
The number of offenders not returned to custody after breaching the terms of their community sentences has doubled in a year. Some 237 offenders absconded in 2011-12, in comparison to 115 in 2010-11. Labour's Shadow Justice minister Jenny Chapman called on ministers to "urgently explain this sharp rise in lost offenders".
