Olympians and veteran MPs honoured
A number of Olympians and veteran MPs are to receive honours from the Queen as part of New Year celebrations.
Knighthoods and Damehoods include cyclists Bradley Wiggins and Sarah Storey, while other athletes got OBEs and CBEs. Mayor of London Boris Johnson said it was "only right" Olympians were honoured. Lord Coe, who masterminded the Games, has become a Companion of Honour.
Veteran MPs Margaret Beckett and Richard Shepherd were also made a Dame and a Knight respectively, but former London Mayor Ken Livingstone revealed he turned down an honour.
Cherie Blair was made a CBE for her charity work, while Metropolitan Police chief Bernard Hogan-Howe received a knighthood, despite recent controversies.
