Osborne to miss Labour spending target
George Osborne is on course to miss the deficit-reduction targets laid down by Alistair Darling in 2010, which the Chancellor has said did not go far enough in cutting spending. According to the Office for Budget Responsibility, the deficit will hit 6.1% in 2013-15, 0.6% higher than Mr Darling's target. Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury Rachel Reeves said the figures showed the Coalition's economic plan had "totally backfired".
