David Miliband and Harriet Harman on Iraq
David Miliband is now expected to announce his intention to quit frontline politics, leaving the Labour party conference in Manchester just hours before he has to decide if he will stand in the shadow cabinet elections. Speculation that he will not serve under his brother Ed has been fuelled by a conversation he had with Harriet Harman during the new Labour leader's speech. When Ed Miliband said the war in Iraq was wrong, his elder brother was heard by ITN to turn to the applauding Ms Harman and say "you voted for it. Why are you clapping?", to which she replied "I am clapping because, as you know, I am supporting him". Ms Harman later said she was applauding the honesty of the new leader.
