Alzheimer's Society comments on UK COVID-19 vaccines delivery plan

The Government has today set out its UK COVID-19 vaccines delivery plan for vaccinating tens of millions of people by spring.

Fiona Carragher, Director of Research and Influencing at Alzheimer’s Society said:

“It is good to see the Government’s plan to scale up vaccination numbers published today. The past year has taken a terrible toll on people with dementia, including those who make up 70% of care home residents, many of whom remain cut off from the ones they love.

"News that this programme will offer vaccinations to all care home residents and staff across the country, who are supposed to be top of the list, will surely be a light at the end of the tunnel.

"We do need to be absolutely sure it is working effectively, with the Government publishing daily data on vaccinations broken down by priority band, so we can ensure the most vulnerable are being protected.”
