In a press conference today, the Health Secretary said that 78.7% of those aged 80 or older in the UK had received the first dose of the Covid vaccine.

Fiona Carragher, Director of Research & Influencing, Alzheimer’s Society, said,

‘It’s encouraging to see such a high number of over 80s getting their first jab, but we urgently need to see data on the most vulnerable group.

"People in care homes, at least 70% of whom have dementia, have been decimated by this virus, those who survived cut off from their families for months, many sadly fading away as isolation takes its toll.

"They deserve full transparency from the Government, we must see daily percentages of those in each priority band who have had the vaccine. Time is of the essence so we must make sure no-one is being left behind.”
