Budget 2016: Government has failed to support unpaid carers

Carers Trust

Responding to todays Budget, GailScott-Spicer, CEO ofCarersTrust, said:

“We are once again disappointed that the Government has failed to provide more funding for social care, which could have supported unpaid carers, the people they care for, and the local services they depend on. We have already seen the closure of some of the services in our network, leaving carers and disabled and older people without support - and this will continue to happen unless the chronic underfunding gap is closed. This lack of funding drastically affects carers’ health and wellbeing.

“The two per cent social care precept announced in the Spending Review which councils can introduce will not be able to cover all of carers’ needs nor will every area introduce it. The Government thinks it has resolved the social care funding problem, but we don’t think it has.”
