Chief Executive of Independent Age, Janet Morrison, responds to Norman Lamb, Liz Kendall and Dan Poulter's calls for cross-party health and care talks.

We wholeheartedly support the calls for a cross-party commission on health and social care and we have been playing a leading role in calling for a commission for some time. Theresa May’s new government has an opportunity to be bold and address the challenges and opportunities of an ageing society.  We need an honest debate about what type of older age we want, and how much as a society we are prepared to pay for it. The current system is not working and it’s imperative that we look at any changes in the context of both health and social care. A robust social care system will support the NHS and help reduce the pressures on it. Anyone who would like to find out more or join our campaign should visit carefortomorrow.org.uk.
