GMB young members demand MPs tackle growing youth mental health crisis
Mental health number one issue for young members at general election.
GMB young members demand the next Government tackles the growing mental health crisis among young people.
The union’s youths urge first time voters to get involved and pick candidates that understand and address their issues - including the growing mental health problem among the country's young people.
GMB Young Members demand:
-
The reversal of cuts to mental health care and support – particularly in the area of Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
-
The creation of a Cabinet Minister for Mental Health and Neurodiversity, regardless of which party forms the next Government
-
A joined up approach to mental health care provision and wider health, provided free at the point of use by our NHS
-
The outlawing of Zero Hours Contracts, bogus self-employment and other labour practices that create instability for workers
-
The passing of a Mental Health At Work Act, so that all employers know exactly what it expected of them in managing Mental Health at Work
Beccie Ions, GMB Young Member, said:
"Despite the increased awareness of mental health in our society we are still seeing services cut and underfunded.
“This leads to many people who need support being isolated and ignored.
“This cannot continue - we need proper policies and services in place to curb the growing mental health crisis among our country’s young people.
“At this election, we need to keep mental health at the top of the political agenda. We need action, not empty promises.
“Young people have the power to change the outcome of this election.
“We will vote for those candidates with compassion, understanding, vision and the ability to make these demands happen.
“It's time to show that #mentalhealthmatters.”
