Government must provide visionary leadership on the environment

Government must provide visionary leadership on the environment, says Hege Saebjornsen, Sustainability Manager at IKEA.

Hege Saebjornsen, Sustainability Manager, IKEA UK and Ireland has released the following statement following today's Queen's Speech.

“Following today’s Queen’s Speech, for the UK to take the significant steps needed to become a circular economy and achieve net zero by 2050, we need the Government to provide visionary leadership on the environment, otherwise people will continue to think small. Right now, UK policy addresses sustainability as a waste management problem, however it is so much more than that and we still have a long way to go.

“As a global retailer, we have a responsibility and opportunity to take the lead and play our part in the areas where we can make a real difference. IKEA will work together with policy makers, politicians, other businesses and consumers to contribute to the change, therefore, we welcome these announcements and look forward to seeing the detail when the Environment Bill is published.”
