Have your say on the proposed Solicitors Qualifying Examination

Solicitors Regulation Authority

2 min read Partner content

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) is inviting solicitors, education and training providers and students to a series of consultation events on the proposed Solicitors Qualifying Examination.

The SRA recently published proposals for a new system, which would see everyone wanting to qualify as a solicitor taking the same professional exam based on the competences required to do the job.

The SRA believes the new assessment would ensure consistent high standards of entry into the profession, providing confidence for both employers and the public. Opening up new pathways into the profession - such as apprenticeships – will help to foster greater diversity in the profession and a single exam will make sure all candidates meet the same high standards regardless of the route they take.

To promote discussion around these proposals, the SRA is hosting a number of events around the country over the coming months. These will give attendees the opportunity to talk about the proposals, why they are needed and how they would work. Dates and locations include:

  • 9 February - The Cube, 199 Wharfside Street, Birmingham (5-7pm)

  • 10 February - 1 America Square, 17 Crosswall, London (5-7pm)

  • 16 February - M Shed, Princes Wharf, Wapping Rd, Bristol (5-7pm)

  • 23 February - The Hospitium, Museum Gardens, Museum St, York (5-7pm)

  • 25 February - online webinar, 12.30-1.30pm

The events offers solicitors, students and those interested in the proposed changes the chance to voice their opinion.

Bookings can be made via the SRA website. Places are limited so early booking is recommended.

The consultation on the proposed Solicitors Qualifying Examination runs until 4 March 2016 and can be found online at: www.sra.org.uk/sra/consultations
