We must not forget politicians are human and do an incredibly difficult job, says Mind.

Louise Rubin, Parliamentary Manager at Mind, said:

“It is worrying to hear stories of MPs experiencing depression, unhappiness and poor mental health, while also feeling they can't talk to their colleagues about these issues or access help. These findings are also in keeping with our own conversations with MPs. We must not forget politicians are human and do an incredibly difficult job. It is therefore crucial that during this stressful times that they areable to access the right mental health support.

“Long-term unmanageable stress can negatively affect physical and mental health, and can lead to or worsen problems like depression. Wherever you work, you should know how to access good mental health support when you need it and feel able to talk to colleagues about what you're going through.

"We would recommend that anyone who is finding that their feelings are overwhelming and affecting daily life, regardless of their profession, should speak to a friend or family member or go to a GP, who can talk you through the support that’s available.”
