Starter Homes idea is a model which can work - FMB

Brian Berry, Chief Executive of the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), said:

“The Conservative Party’s focus on first time buyers is welcome. The crisis of affordability which is affecting first time buyers is one of the most striking symptoms of the wider housing challenge we face. The 50,000 people who have signed up to express an interest in the Starter Homes scheme is testament to this. Enabling more first time buyers to take their first step onto the housing ladder is also crucial to the long term health of the property market and the house building industry.

“The FMB believes that the Starter Homes idea is a model which can work. In order to roll out the scheme as planned, it will be important that it remains as flexible as possible and focuses on delivering genuinely additional development. It must also involve all sizes of house building firms, including the smaller scale. Working together, we are confident that the industry and the next Government can improve affordability and choice for first time buyers.”
