The EU supports ground-breaking collaborative research at UK universities
The Universities for Europe campaign has published case-studies today highlighting how membership of the European Union enhances international collaboration between researchers, enabling ground-breaking research that improves peoples lives in the UK.
European Union programmes, structures and support play a central role in the success of these research collaborations leading to advances and discoveries in many different fields, from healthcare to food security, to ageing and space exploration. These partnerships between UK universities and researchers from other EU countries allow the brightest and best to work together to find solutions to global problems.
Dame Julia Goodfellow, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kent and President of Universities UK, said: “The European Union supports UK researchers collaborate with the brightest minds from across the Europe and the globe. Cross-border collaboration positively enhances the quality, impact and efficiency of our research.
“The EU helps universities to make key advances on important areas such as reducing industrial pollution and brings together the best minds to conduct research that leads to greater understanding of and new treatments for major health issues such as HIV, cancer and Alzheimer’s.
“The European Union helps us pool resources, expertise, data and infrastructure across borders. Global problems require global solutions and therefore it is imperative that the brightest minds across the world work together.”
