The importance of regular sight test for all children Macular Society 1 min read02 November 2015 Partner content Ahead of the parliamentary debate on sight tests in special schools, the charity Macular Society calls for regularexams for all children. Cathy Yelf, the Chief Executive of sight loss charity the Macular Society, said: “The Society supports the call for the provision of sight tests in special schools. There are a number of sight loss conditions which affect central vision known as juvenile macular dystrophies that can go undetected because sight loss is not considered when addressing learning and behavioural issues. In some cases children with central vision problems may be perceived to be disengaged because they are looking away from the teacher or white board because they are in fact using part of their sight which is undamaged. “The Society believes greater awareness of this is needed throughout the education system and recommends that all children have regular eye examinations whether or not they have any vision problems.” Related Ministers Could Give Care Leavers Free Prescriptions And Bus Fares By Tali Fraser 20 Nov
