The UK’s approach to exporting beef and lamb will come under the spotlight at a major industry event next week.

EBLEX export manager Jean-Pierre Garnier will outline current practice and what changes can be made to help the UK beef and lamb sector address future challenges and opportunities at the 10th annual EBLEX Export Conference on June 25 at Stoneleigh Park.

He said: “As the export landscape evolves for beef and lamb it is important to examine how the industry can adapt to help ensure the UK maximises its potential. The type of products we are exporting is changing and so are the markets.

“This conference is the ideal forum for industry stakeholders to discuss these ideas on how best to make the most of the opportunities we have. With 102 markets now open for lamb and 91 for beef there are a lot of opportunities out there.”

The event, which is free to levy payers, will be opened by Food and Farming Minister George Eustice and will also feature a presentation on Asian premium meat retailing by Victoria Santini, Head of Asia for the Institute of Grocery Distribution. UKTI Food and Drink’s Rob Furse will examine UKTI’s contribution to meat exports.

The conference is expected to attract around 120 delegates, including those already exporting and those thinking of doing so, and places have been going quickly. It will also provide an opportunity to network over lunch and discuss key issues with other industry stakeholders and experts from EBLEX’s team.
