Bar Council joins Brexit Secretary Davis at roundtable

Bar Council

Chairman of the Bar, Chantal-Aimée Doerries QC today attended a roundtable on Brexit negotiations hosted by Rt Hon David Davis MP, Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, with UK professional and business services leaders.

The Chairman of the Bar, Chantal-Aimée Doerries QC said: “The round table was an important and very welcome opportunity for UK professional and business services leaders to talk directly with Government on the shape of Brexit negotiations. It was, therefore, essential that the barristers’ profession was represented at these talks.

“The professional and business services sector is the UK’s single largest exporter to which legal services makes a major contribution, producing a £3.4 billion trade surplus in 2015.

“An important part of the success of the UK and London as a centre for international dispute resolution is the ability to enforce judgments obtained in the UK across the EU, as if they were judgments of a court of the Member State in which enforcement is sought. It will be important to ensure that this remains possible going forward."

The departmental press release, including a photo of the event, is available here.
