British Gas is delighted to be leading the development groups for new Trailblazer Apprenticeship Standards for Gas Service Engineer and Smart Meter Installer, in line with the governments Implementation Plan for Apprenticeships.

David Marsh, Head of Academies, British Gas and Chair of the Employer Development Group for the Standard for Smart Meter Installer, said: "By giving employers the ability to collaborate to design high quality apprenticeships, we can ensure that individuals are equipped with the skills identified by industry; skills that will serve our current and future workforce.

Apprenticeships have strategic value to industry; they contribute to a talent pipeline, succession planning and support businesses to identify leaders of the future. At British Gas, apprentices are fundamental to our business model and provide a starting point for a rewarding career.

On behalf of the development groups, we warmly welcome the government’s approval of our proposal to develop these new Apprenticeship Standards, and we look forward to working collaboratively to enhance the apprenticeship offering for the sector.”

Skills Minister Nick Boles said: “I am delighted that British Gas is to join more than 1000 of the country’s leading employers in designing new top quality apprenticeships in Smart Meter Installation and Gas Service Engineering.

“Giving employers like British Gas the power to design apprenticeships means that apprentices graduate with the skills they need for the job they want and businesses get the talent they need to grow.”
