Airbus employee recognised for his outstanding commitment to community.

Airbus awards employee David Edgecumbe the title of “Community Champion” at the Filton site in recognition of a lifetime of volunteering and charity work.

The Airbus Community Champions Awards celebrate the outstanding work Airbus employees carry out in their own time to support local community groups and charities.  Employees are asked to nominate their fellow colleagues who in their eyes are the ‘unsung’ heroes of the company.

Eight nominations were shortlisted for the award, but David impressed the selection panel by his motivation, dedication and the sheer volume of activities he is involved in.  Each runner-up received £75 for a charity of their choice, with David winning £500 which he has chosen to split between Crohn’s and Colitis UK and the Scouts Association.

David’s long-standing commitment to volunteering was inspired aged eight as a Scout and he has continued ever since. You will often see David raising money in the workplace by, for example, growing facial hair for Movember and baking cakes for numerous bake-offs.

He is currently the assistant Scout Leader for 37th Kingswood Scouts, where, motivated by his desire to give back to the community, he runs weekly sessions which allow the young people to develop life skills and values.

David’s son was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease when he was young and grateful for the support the family received from Crohn’s and Colitis UK, David now spends many hours fundraising and raising awareness with his son for the charity.

Amongst everything else, David also finds time to serve as a school governor at the Bristol Technical Engineering Academy and support Coalpit Heath Cricket Club.

David Edgecumbe said; “I am greatly honoured to be the Airbus Community Champion. I would like to share this award with my colleagues that go unnoticed who do an excellent job helping with this community.”

Trevor Higgs, Airbus UK Head of Engineering said; “I have known Dave for 20 years and he is a real ambassador for Airbus. He is dedicated in all he does often going above and beyond, from his job here at Airbus to his fundraising and volunteering.”

Airbus is proud to announce David as the Airbus Community Champion 2017, we would like to congratulate him and everyone else nominated for the award on their achievements and thank them for all they do in our local community.
