Ending the exploitation of care workers

Carers Trust

1 min read Partner content

Responding to Paul Burstow MP's article on underpaid care workers, Dr Moira Fraser, Interim CEO at Carers Trust said:

Disabled people, older people and the family members who care them depend on care workers who are highly skilled, well supported and paid fairly for the job they do. Carers Trust believes care workers are an undervalued and sometimes exploited part of our workforce, doing a crucial and difficult job supporting vulnerable members of our community.

Care workers should not only be paid at least minimum wage, but should also be paid for their travel time between appointments, and they should have opportunities for professional development to enhance their skills. We need to value our care workers and support them to stay in the care workforce, delivering high quality care to those who need it.
