The Equality and Human Rights Commission will hold a briefing session for cross-party MPs, ahead of committee stage of the EU (Withdrawal) Bill on Wednesday 11 October, 17:15-18:45pm, Committee Room 5.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission will hold a briefing session for cross-party MPs, ahead of committee stage of the EU (Withdrawal) Bill. This will consider the implications and opportunities for equality and human rights protections in all parts of the UK, as we prepare to exit the EU.

The session will be hosted by Rt Hon Maria Miller MP, with contributions from expert speakers including:

  •         David Isaac, Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission
  •         Corey Stoughton, Advocacy Director, Liberty
  •         Rachel Logan, Law and Human Rights Programme Director, Amnesty
  •         Ali Harris, Chief Executive, Equality and Diversity Forum

The Commission has a mandate, set by the UK Parliament, to advise on the adequacy of Great Britain’s equality and human rights legislation and any proposed change to them. As the EU (Withdrawal) Bill progresses through Parliament, we wish to support MPs to ensure equality and human rights protections are maintained, including the implications of the devolved context.

You can read the Commission’s Second Reading briefing here, which highlights our five priority areas for the Bill, including ruling out the use of delegated powers to amend equality and human rights laws and the inclusion of a principle of non-dilution of equality and human rights law in the Bill.
