EY worked with the HM Treasurys to develop a series of video insights for the Government Finance and Internal Audit Conference. Senior Finance Leaders across the UK Government have been interviewed around four central themes of the government finance agenda.

Finance at the heart of decision making

You can’t deliver effective government policy if you can’t afford to pay for it. As value for money, efficiencies and public spending continue to be a focus, government finance leaders need to influence and contribute to policy making, not just balance the books. EY and HM Treasury are delighted to share a video insight from the GFIA Conference on how finance must be at the heart of decision making, to ensure that taxpayer’s money is wisely spent.

Government finance Management Information

There is much more to government finance management information than numbers. The real power lies in how the data is interpreted. Management information must be central to decision making at both the board and influencing table. EY and HM Treasury are delighted to share a video insight from the GFIA Conference on how management information can drive better decision making.

Understanding costing

It’s obvious that in order to deliver public sector productivity and efficiency, finance leaders need to know what and where budgets are being spent. However, even more important is being able to understand how well they are being spent across different departments, to help drive costs and efficiencies to ultimately create better value for the taxpayer. EY and HM Treasury are delighted to share a video insight from the GFIA Conference looking at the importance of costing.

Building capacity

The expectation of the government finance leader’s role has changed beyond just good financial management to being able to understand how policy and finances impact across the wider organisation.  Finance professionals must also have the leadership skills to challenge and influence the creation of policy, while helping to drive innovation forward. EY and HM Treasury are delighted to share a video insight from the GFIA Conference looking at building capacity and leadership in the government finance function.
