GMB Topshop workers down tools again over 'deplorable' warehouse conditions
Staff in Leeds deliver shamed peer Philip Green with an unwelcome late birthday present.
GMB workers in a Topshop distribution warehouse are walking out for a second time over ‘deplorable’ working conditions.
Staff at Spectrum for Arcadia, a division of the DHL Logistics Supply Chain in Leeds, will be downing tools again following a dispute over pay.
The previous strike disrupted deliveries for the shamed peer’s TopShop, Miss Selfridge and Burton’s outlets.
Protracted pay negotiations with the company have left GMB members dejected and feeling undervalued after their pay claim was thrown out by the company.
GMB members walked out last month – but with the company refusing to offer a real living wage they have no option but to take action again.
Previously, an anonymous member of staff described conditions as “like a workhouse”.
Doug Cooper, GMB organiser for the Leeds site said:
“Despite the astronomical sums Philip Green has accumulated throughout his career, he continually refuses to pay our members a decent wage.
“While he enjoyed a lavish birthday party this week, our members struggled to make ends meet while working in depolorable conditions.
“Now they have a late present for him – more disruption to his customers' deliveries.
“We will continue until he realises he must treat staff like human beings and pay them a wage they can live on."
