The Road Haulage Association welcomes the news that the gateway to the UK is to remain at Calais.

RHA chief executive Richard Burnett has today written to the Prime Minister to thank her for putting this issue at the top of her agenda.

“This has long been a matter of major concern to those hauliers that use the Dover-Calais crossing on a regular basis. It is the most efficient trade route between the UK and mainland Europe and many millions of tonnes of freight are carried on the back of HGVs each way, every year,” said Richard Burnett.

He continued, “We have been working closely with officials at the Home Office and the exchange of intelligence has been invaluable.

“We look forward to collaborating with the new team and I am confident that by continuing our excellent working relationship, we can eventually establish a solution to the issue of migrants boarding trucks at Calais and other, smaller French ports thereby ensuring the safety of UK-bound HGV drivers.
