LPG fuelling your May Day Bank Holiday

Liquid Gas UK

2 min read Partner content

UKLPG highlights the crucial role of its members that supply gas to power British BBQs and 193,000 of the off-grid homes in the UK.

What are your plans for this May Day bank holiday weekend? Will you be using LPG?

If you plan to have a BBQ, head out camping or visit a food festival, the chances are that you will!

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been fuelling British summers for generations without you even knowing it. And again this summer your outdoor LPG BBQ or gas stove will be emitting 33% less carbon than the charcoal alternative, providing you with a safe, controlled and environmentally-friendly source of energy.

Its clean, portable and versatile form makes LPG a summer essential, the ideal fuel for both indoor and outdoor use, for families and businesses alike.

You may not be aware that currently 193,000 off-grid households choose low carbon LPG for their energy supply in order to enjoy the benefits of heating with and cooking on gas all year round. In the UK, 84% of domestic properties are connected to the mains gas grid. 2 million properties are off-grid and therefore depend on alternative fuel sources, including LPG.

LPG runs all familiar domestic household gas appliances and benefits from all technological advancements in the gas appliance sector, meaning that operational efficiencies and carbon savings continue to improve all the time.

In industry, LPG is used in multiple applications; in space and process-heating, to power industrial ovens in the production of food, in kilns and furnaces as well as powering forklift trucks in warehouses.

The British agricultural sector also depends heavily upon LPG for processes such as crop drying, poultry rearing and greenhouse heating – all of which improves the quality of produce that ends up on your plate.

So next time you pick up your BBQ tongs, head on a rural hotel retreat or even hop into a hot air balloon – remember that LPG is the fuel powering your adventure.

UKLPG is the trade association for the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) industry in the UK, and the one voice representing companies who are producers, distributors, equipment and service providers, and vehicle converters. Member companies supply over 98% of the total LPG distributed in the UK.
