NIA reaction to the National Infrastructure Assesment consultation

Nuclear Industry Association

The National Infrastructure Commission has issued a consultation on a National Infrastructure Assessment - Congestion, Capacity, Carbon: Priorities for National Infrastructure.

Responding to publication Tom Greatrex, Chief Executive of the Nuclear Industry Association, said:

“The Commission’s consultation provides a timely opportunity to assess how to deliver the energy infrastructure that can meet our future likely demands.

“The government’s clean growth strategy commits the UK to the phase out of fossil fuels, decarbonisation of heat and power, as well as an ambition to increase the number of electric vehicles on our roads. We will need more low carbon energy sources to meet this increased demand.

“It is welcome the Commission has recognised a mix of technologies will be needed to meet decarbonisation targets and that nuclear, both large scale and potentially small modular reactors, will have a role to play.”
