Pearson's education toolkit for Members of Parliament

The results of the 2024 general election have brought a fresh cohort of MPs to Westminster, with more than half of the 650 newly elected parliamentarians taking their seats for the first time.

As we mark 100 days of this parliament, most MPs will now be beginning to have their office teams in place. This will mean that dealing with casework can begin in earnest. They will no doubt find that a significant portion of their postbags and email inboxes will be related to the world of education and skills.

We recognise that education and skills policy can often seem opaque and challenging to grasp, especially for those outside the sector. The multitude of systems, specialised terminology, and regional variations can create a confusing landscape that’s difficult to navigate.

To help MPs navigate these complexities and best support the learners in their constituencies, Pearson has developed a new MP toolkit. This comprehensive resource provides essential information for MPs and their staff to assist constituents related to education and skills, whether they are lifelong learners or students in local schools and colleges.

This document includes a glossary of education terms, an indicative academic calendar, a list of education unions and professional bodies, the relevant All-Party Parliamentary Groups, and information about workforce skills needs across the regions of England.

We have also highlighted Pearson’s in-depth research in key policy areas, including our Skills Map of England and our annual School Report, which provides a state-of-the-nation view from inside the classroom.

You can download our MP toolkit here.
